Massage Therapy

Massage – the word itself evokes feelings of peacefulness, relaxation, letting go of stress. Massage therapy involves a combination of specialized touch techniques used on focus areas or on the entire body.

There are numerous studies on the benefits of massage, as well as different theories on the physiological effects of massage, showing massage therapy to be a good integrative modality for healing and well being. Types of Massage
There are many different types of massage. Swedish massage, the foundation of my training, is the most commonly used type in the US. I think many massage therapists will agree with me that, as one gains experience and more learning in this profession, we incorporate different approaches and techniques into each massage therapy session. The combinations that I use depend on what I have learned, as well as what we both decide to be suitable for your goals and needs.

Some of the most common techniques I incorporate are:
• Myofascial
• Neuromuscular
• Craniosacral
• Lymphatic Drainage techniques
• and, the more energy based techniques of Acupressure and Reiki

I am also certified in Pediatric Massage and have worked on both healthy children and children living with cancer.

A Partner in Your Health and Well Being
Most people receive massages because it feels good and it makes them feel good. Others use massage because they have very specific symptoms like pain, tension, decreased mobility, or chronic discomfort. We work together to determine which techniques you might enjoy and those that will also be effective.

Years of learning and practice from books, good teachers, colleagues, receiving massage, and most of all, from the adults and children who trusted me to be a partner in their healing and well being has made me a general practitioner in the field of massage. I am confident that my knowledge, experience, and skills allow me to introduce a new possibility to your body or to design a session that might be all that you need at this time.And, given my healthcare background, I know when a referral to a specialist is needed or if integrative care with traditional medicine and therapies may be the best approach for you.
