Massage Therapy
Massage – the word itself evokes feelings of
peacefulness, relaxation, letting go of stress. Massage therapy involves a combination of specialized touch techniques used on focus areas or on the
entire body. In addition to promoting overall health and well being, physiological changes also occur during a massage session: increased circulation which
helps to maintain healthy tissues, improve functioning, and promote healing.
There are many different types of massage. Swedish massage, which is the foundation of my training, is the most commonly used type in the US. In the past
three years, I have built on this foundation with advanced training in deep tissue massage, acupressure, cranio-sacral work, lymphatic drainage, and pregnancy
massage.
Most people receive massages because it feels good and it makes them feel good. Others use massage to improve mobility and flexibility or to
decrease pain. After a massage treatment, some people feel relaxed, while others feel energized. You are appropriately and respectfully draped at all times.
Note: All approaches are integrative – they can be used in conjunction with any medical treatment that you are receiving. However, they are not
to be used as a substitute for medical treatment. It is important to inform your massage therapist of any medical conditions so that any necessary adjustments can be
made. Our intent is for you to receive the full benefits of massage and other healing approaches without compromising your health.
