Other Approaches/Services:

Acupressure

Fast, immediate, deep relief. Acupressure is an evolution of ancient healing techniques that combines Oriental medicine with modern bodywork. Developed by Aminah Raheem, PhD, it has its roots in Japanese acupressure. Using 36 master points that access the body’s energy meridians, a variety of protocols help to effectively balance the body’s systems. I use my fingers and a specific touch, called interface touch, to establish contact with your acupoints. As your energy system rebalances, so does your physical body.

People who have received and given acupressure treatments report that this approach touches both energy and structure – the “soul in the muscles or bones.” This is what makes this method unique. A complete acupressure session can be done while you are fully clothed or draped, or can be combined with massage.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy

CST is a gentle touch therapy that balances the cranio-sacral system consisting of the brain, spinal cord, and the membranes and fluid that surround and protect them. The Upledger method (developed by Dr. John Upledger, osteopathic physician and surgeon), uses light touch and holding techniques to evaluate the system, release your body’s restrictions, and balance the system. Since all our organs and muscles are supplied by nerves from this system, enhanced functioning promotes overall physical health and well being. In addition, people often report the release of long and deeply-held emotions stored in the body.

The Lebed Method: Focus on Healing

A fun way to heal, especially for breast cancer survivors – but also valuable for anyone with chronic health conditions or who wants to regain their range of motion. This therapeutic program of exercise was developed by a breast cancer survivor and dance movement specialist with her brothers, who are physicians. The unique exercises in this program first open up the lymphatic system, then movements address mobility, flexibility and balance using a variety of music. A specialized program is available for children. For more information see: lebedmethod.com.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

MLD uses gentle and systematic strokes to promote the proper functioning of your lymph system and to improve your immune system. It redirects the lymphatic flow from an affected area into an unaffected area. The lymph system is critical to your body’s ability to drain fluids, detoxify, reduce swelling, promote circulation, and regenerate tissues. It is a highly effective treatment for

  • arthritis
  • chronic fatigue syndrome
  • fibromyalgia
  • post-traumatic or post-surgical edema
  • sinus congestion/headaches

MLD is also used as a treatment approach for people with lymphedema or who are at risk for lymphedema. Although not everyone who has lymph nodes removed, damaged or irradiated will develop lymphedema, the risk is always there. I can accommodate cancer patients who have already been through a combination program and have the ability to do the bandaging on theirown, but need a health practitioner to do the manual drainage piece.
